The Leavin' of Liverpool

      Liverpool was a popular destination for Irish emigrants long before the potato famine.  It was during the famine, though, that the bustling port town saw many of its Irish travelling on to North America.  Just as Americans are proud of their Irish heritage today, Liverpudlians also keep in touch with the culture and customs of their Irish anscestors.  
     "The Leavin' of Liverpool" however, is more of a sea shanty than an emigrant's lament.  In this song, a sailor longs for the day when he'll return home to Liverpool and his own true love.
